Info
As President of Better Testing & Evaluations, Dr. Angelika Pohl takes the lead on projects. She is assisted by a team of consultants who provide additional expertise in test development, who have extensive teaching experience in a variety of content areas, and who have other skills and knowledge areas as needed.
Dr. Pohl has extensive professional experience in education and in all aspects of testing and evaluation. After a career of college and graduate-level teaching and research, she was Project Director at National Evaluation Systems, the leading developer of customized teacher certification tests.
At the Georgia Department of Education, Dr. Pohl was responsible for development and implementation of the new Georgia High School Graduation Tests. Eager to work the "other side” and to help schools deal with increased testing requirements, she left in 1998 to establish her own consulting business.
Dr. Pohl has taught at Agnes Scott College, at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst, at Smith College, and at Georgia State University.
Dr. Pohl draws on wide-ranging, international education and work experience, on solid research and psychometric skills, and on her talents for effective communication to provide outstanding staff development, evaluations, and consultations.
Dr. Pohl holds a B.A. and M.A. in Comparative Literature from Emory University and an Ed.D. from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst. She worked with Jean Piaget in Geneva, Switzerland; she conducted research on secondary education in the Philippines, and she has lectured on American education in Austria, Germany, and France. She is fluent in English, German, and French and is currently learning Spanish.
Better Testing & Evaluation's main office is located in Decatur, Georgia, a charming area in the city of Atlanta. Dr. Pohl is available to work anywhere in the U.S. as well as internationally.
Testing
We have worked with teachers in more than a dozen Georgia school systems as well as other states: Texas, South Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
We have developed thousands of test items for a school system's benchmark tests.
Dr. Pohl has consulted with schools in Austria, France, and Japan.
Evaluation
Our evaluation projects have ranged widely. Some examples:
Dr. Pohl and her team are excited about opportunities to work in a wide range of geographic locations and educational contexts.

Angelika Pohl, Ed.D.
"I spent too many years of my professional life developing and imposing 'hurdles' for teachers and students: high-stakes tests! So, for the last ten years I've been working the 'other side' helping teachers take back control of assessment, guiding them in developing their own, better tests.
"Not only will high-quality testing practices promote better learning, but teachers will be better prepared to assess each student's learning progress.
"I feel quite passionate about helping teachers take back responsibility for testing their students' academic achievement.
"Test scores are necessary -- but they are not sufficient for meaningful assessment of an educational program's success. I particularly enjoy working on evaluation projects that look at many different dimensions to fairly reflect a program's richness and complexity."
